Frequently Asked Questions

I am new, what should I do?

The most obvious answer is to play! Pickup is a great place to obtain knowledge of the game, strategy, and throws. The environment is friendly, and the people are willing to teach.

Secondly, sign up for league! Summer League is a great place to gain skill. Since you play with the same team week after week, there is a certain amount of team bonding which always helps in learning the sport.

To make the answer short, if you are willing to put in the effort to play and learn, others are always willing to teach!

What is the league, how does it work... ?

The Colorado Springs Ultimate Summer League is an individual based league. Basically, this means that you register as an individual and drafted onto a team. Over the last few years, the league has had over 100 participants, comprising 6 teams. These six teams will play each other (usually twice). An up-to-date ranking is kept right here on the website. At the end of the year, there is a tournament. Lasting all day, it is quite an event.

In order to play, all you have to do is register and show up! You will receive a disc, a shirt, and league extras. After each week of play, league members will be encouraged to go grab a bight to eat (and maybe a drink or two) at one of the league's sponsoring bars or restaurants. More information about where this weekly 'party' will take place to come.

There is usually some sort of party following the league just as a final get together. Plenty of food, drinks, fun and games will be provided. Friends and family are usually welcome to come. More information later.

If you have any further questions, please email me, Matt, the league director. my email address is [my first name] @springsultimate.org

I have to miss a lot of league games. What can I do?

Summer is a busy time, and vacations are always fun. If you know ahead of time that you will be missing league games, please be sure to note this in your 'bio' section upon registration. You will still be required to pay the full registration fee as you will still receive all of the benefits -- disc, shirt, and party. Sorry for the bad news, but there is really no way around it.

What is the club team?

Ultimate is played on a variety of different levels. Strictly speaking, there are three major divisions: youth, college, and club. The club division is sub-divided into the open, womens, mixed, and masters divisions. For many years, Colorado Springs has had a mixed club team. There have been many teams throughout the years, but "Pira Haku", "Akimbo", and "F.U.N" are the most notable. Most of the recruiting for these leagues takes place on the forum, at pickup, or league.
